Now available from Eco Build is the Irish made Sheepwool Insulation. This insulation is made from 100% Pure New Wool and is completely safe and easy to use with no harmful or irritating fibres. There are many benefits in using natural sheep’s wool insulation, the most significant points being that:
- Wool can absorb moisture and still retain its superior insulation properties.
- Wool has a naturally long lifespan and will extinguish itself in event of fire.
- Wool is perfectly safe to both the end user and the environment.
- Wool insulation has a very low conductivity which means it is very difficult for heat to pass from one side to the other.
To compare wool to other common insulators examine the table below, here the conductivities are given in Watts per meter Kelvin (w/mK) – where the lower value is the better result.
| INSULATION MATERIAL | CONDUCTIVITY (k Value) |
|---|---|
| Sheep Wool Insulation (Certified Europewide CE Value) | 0.039 W/mK |
| Glass Wool | 0.044 W/mK |
| Mineral (Rock) Wool | 0.042 W/mK |
| Cork | 0.04 W/mK |
Cellulose Insulation
Cellulose insulation material is manufactured from newspapers. This is sorted and ground it insulating cellulose. The path from newspaper to insulation material requires little energy and no water. Thus, the manufacture of this insulation material has clearly fewer disadvantages for the environment than the manufacture of conventional products.
Holzflex
Holzflex: This slab form insulation material manufactured from wood fibre with a fire resistant additive is ideal for use between rafters, joists and timber studs, is easy to work with and can be readily cut to fit.
Thermo-Hemp
Thermo-Hemp: This insulation is manufactured from fine Hemp fibres in slab form but also in rolls making it an ideal substitute for glass fibre insulation because as a natural product it can be tolerated well by the skin and causes no itching. Thermo-Hemp also contains soda as a fireproofing agent.
